Application, Admission, and Other Information Long Cane Academy welcomes applications for admission from South Carolina and Georgia residents throughout the Savannah Lakes area. The campus is located at 1317 Overbrook Road, McCormick, S.C. 29835, within easy driving distance of Lincolnton (GA), Elberton (GA), Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, Greenwood, Edgefield, and Augusta ,(GA). LCA admits students of any race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin. Academically challenged students are also accepted, depending upon need. Admission is open enrollment basis; however, placement tests are usually administered to determine grade/course level and each student's needs. All new students must place on file in the school office a South Carolina immunization record (records from GA and other states can be converted to the SC form, by the McCormick County Health Department). Copies of the student's birth certificate, social security card, and drivers license (grades 9-12) must be placed on file within 30 days of admission. Kindergarten applicants will undergo health screening. LCA operates three pre-school kindergarten classes: K3/three years of age, K4/four years of age, and K5/five years of age. All three classes are full day programs unless parents prefer an earlier pick-up. Acceptance and placement of each child is dependant upon several factors, including age, health, maturity level, social and academic readiness skills. All kindergarten applicants for admission must be potty-trained prior to their acceptance. LCA will neither enroll a student applicant who has been expelled from his/her former school nor one whose prior record of unsatisfactory academic performance and/or disciplinary (or criminal) violations precludes the academy's consideration. LCA will not enroll a new student as an accelerated student unless the student meets the academy's acceleration guidelines (see Academics in Parent-Student Handbook), and is identified by the S.C. Dept. of Education, Georgia Dept. of Education, or other state regulatory agency as a gifted/talented or advanced placement student; OR, the student exemplified academic excellence at the former school as an honors student and ranked in the top 10% of his/her class. Telephone inquiries and written requests for enrollment information are welcome. Long Cane may be reached at (864) 465-2981 or by fax at (864) 465-2371.
