Text Box: SCISA TEAM PRAISES FACULTY & STUDENTS
On November 17, the LCA administration, faculty and students enjoyed a visit by an evaluation team of the South Carolina Independent School Association.  This visit was a part of the three-year accreditation process required of all SCISA member schools.  LCA has been a fully accredited member of SCISA since 1975.  The Committee was chaired by Dr. Len Maiden of the University of South Carolina; other members were Mrs. Barbara Evans, also of USC, and Mr. Todd Kirk, Laurens Academy Headmaster.  The Committee found “no deficiencies” and gave LCA an “All Clear” on all facets of school operations.  They were especially praiseworthy of the school campus and instructional program.  During the visit, the Committee met with  teachers, a representative student group in grades 7-12, and school board members to discuss their impressions of Long Cane and the educational program.  “While we will offer suggestions, this Committee applauds the efforts of the administration and faculty in making this academy the best it can be”, Chairman Maiden said at an exit conference.  Board Chairman Blake Storey and Secretary Terri Bussey, representing the Board at the exit conference, expressed their desire to release the Committee’s formal report to parents when received.   Dr. Ernest Stokes, Headmaster, thanked the Committee for their help and expressed his sincere appreciation to the faculty and students for their hard work.

Text Box: FALL FESTIVAL ENJOYED BY ALL AGES
The PTA held its annual Fall Festival Friday night, October 28.  Congratulations go to Robert Lee Storey (4th) and Cheyenne Whitehead (5K) on their selection as festival king and queen.  Festivities included the traditional Doubleburger Feast and the new addition of Cow Chip Bingo.  This year’s auction featured old desks, refurbished for 2005, and special handicrafts.  Of course, everyone enjoyed the Haunted Trail, games and cakewalk.  The jailer “arrested” the usual culprits.  Parents shopped at the Country Store—some played bingo, others enjoyed the turkey shoot.  Everyone had fun!
